Cost planning

Understanding senior living costs

A published “starting at” price is useful for screening, but it is rarely a complete monthly estimate. Ask for a written, personalized fee worksheet before comparing totals.

Build the estimate in layers

Start with the apartment or base residence fee. Add the assessed level-of-care charge, medication management, additional occupants, and recurring service packages. Then identify one-time community, assessment, deposit, and move-in fees. Optional transportation, salon, guest meals, or specialized supplies may sit outside the monthly total.

Compare the same period and care assumptions

A studio with limited assistance is not comparable to a one-bedroom with extensive daily support. Record the apartment type, care level, included services, one-time fees, and the date of every quote. Ask how often care needs and fees are reassessed and how residents are notified of rate changes.

Questions for the pricing conversation
